Everyone loves kabobs. They’re easy and fun to make and fun to eat. And don’t forget the delicious, grilled taste. Kids especially love them because they can help fix them and leave out the stuff they don’t like (just make sure they don’t leave out all the vegetables).Eating Kabobs is so much fun because it’s different. You can just pick them up like a snack or finger-food or pull them apart with a fork.. Kabobs can make any meal something special and it into a party.
There are an infinite number of different ways to make
kabobs. You can add any ingredients you like, mix and match whatever you have
on hand. You can just grill them plain or you can marinade them or add a sauce.
Here is just one recipe for grilled chicken kabobs. Take it
as a starting point and use your imagination to create whatever combinations
appeal to you. Check out the tips for variations at the bottom of this post.
Ingredients
- 2-3 skinless, boneless chicken breasts
- Bell peppers (a variety of colors)
- Pineapple chunks
- Cherry tomatoes
- Salt and peppers
Preparation
Wash the chicken breasts and pat them dry with paper
towels. Chop them into bite size pieces.
You want the chicken pieces to be big enough to look good and balance on the
skewer, but not too big. Larger pieces will take longer to cook. And the
chicken needs to cook through without taking so long that the fruit and veggies
burn.
Chop the bell peppers into pieces to fit the skewer and go
with the chicken. Using different colored peppers will add variety to your
kabobs and make them more appealing.
Assemble Your Kabobs
Start with a piece of fruit or vegetable to help hold the
chicken on the skewer. Then make a nice arrangement by alternating the chicken,
fruit, and veggies.
After you’ve
finished assembling your kabobs, it’s
time to add some seasoning. We’re
only using salt and pepper here, but you could add a marinade, if you like. Or
add some herbs, depending on what ingredients you’re using for the kabobs.
Grill the Kabobs
- Lightly spray the grill grates with a non-stick spray to prevent the kabobs from sticking.
- Warm the grill to a medium-high heat. Place the kabobs on the grill, leaving enough room between them so that they don’t stick together.
- Grill the kabobs about three to four minutes per side until the meat is fully cooked. The cooking time will vary depending on the ingredients you used and the size of the pieces.
- The finished product is a sweet and savory delight that everybody enjoys!
Tips
I chose chicken for this recipe, but you can use any meat.
Choose healthier free-range chicken without hormones or antibiotics. For
vegetarians, you can substitute firm tofu.
If your family has picky eaters, they will love kabobs
because kabobs can easily be customized for each person’s likes and dislikes.
Just cut up some chicken, shrimp, pork and steak along with a variety of fruits
and veggies and let everyone make their own.
